IN 2020, THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION CAN HARVEST 127.5 MILLION TONS OF GRAIN, THE SECOND HARVEST AFTER THE 2017 RECORD.
The Russian Federation this year can collect 127.5 million tons of grain, experts predict the analytical center of JSC “Rusagrotrans”, who raised the estimate of the gross harvest by 3.1 million tons.
The new forecast is the second largest harvest after 2017, when 135.5 million tonnes were harvested.
Earlier, the analytical center raised its estimate of wheat harvest by 3.5 million tons, to 81 million tons (74.5 million tons in 2019).
As the head of the center Igor Pavensky told Interfax, the forecast for barley harvest has been increased by 0.4 million tons, to 20.3 million tons (20.5 million tons in 2019) due to high yields in the central regions. The forecast for corn production has been reduced by 0.8 million tons, to 14 million tons (14.3 million tons) due to a moisture deficit in the Southern District and the Stavropol Territory while maintaining hot dry weather, as well as drought in the south of the Volga District.
According to Pavensky, grain harvest in the South and North Caucasus this year compared to 2019 may decrease by 10%, to 40.1 million tons. This is the lowest gross harvest for the region since 2014 (39.1 million tons), he said.
Grain harvest in the Central District may reach a historically record 39.2 million tons, which is 7.9 million tons more than in 2019 and 7.3 million tons higher than the 2017 record.
In the Volga region, the harvest may reach 29.3 million tons, which is 6.7 million tons more than in 2019. This is the second largest harvest after 2017 (30.6 million tonnes).
In the Urals, the grain harvest is estimated at 4.7 million tons (1.1 million tons less than in 2019), in Siberia – 12.3 million tons (2.3 million tons less). The gross grain harvest in the Siberian District was lower only in 2012 – 9 million tons, Pavensky noted.
In 2019, the Russian Federation harvested 121.2 million tons of grain.
