Leu-AGRO News Update on the Ban on the Ammonium Nitrate Export from Russia !!!
The Russian Federation has imposed a two-month ban on the export of ammonium nitrate.
Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree banning the export of ammonium nitrate from Russia for two months. The ban on the export of fertilizer will be in effect from February 02 up to April 02, 2022. The government explains this decision by the needs to provide primarily the Russian farmers.
“This is a temporary measure, the remaining volume can be exported from April 2, when Russian enterprises will receive ammonium nitrate in the required volume, and the demand for it in the domestic market will pass peak values,”
TASS quoted the First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov as saying in a statement from the press service of the government.
As noted in the government, the decision to ban the export of ammonium nitrate was made to ensure the successful completion of the spring sowing campaign. The increased need for mineral fertilizers arose in connection with the expected arrival of early spring in some regions, in particular, in the Southern and North Caucasus Federal Districts. Spring sowing can begin as early as February.
However, the ban on the supply of ammonium nitrate abroad will not greatly affect the annual volumes of its exports, since the size of the export quota will be preserved. “At the moment, the allocated quota is 744 thousand tons, of which 370 thousand tons have already been exported. The adopted decision will not have a serious negative impact on the total volume of exports, since the value of the annual quota remains unchanged, ” – the Ministry of Industry and Trade reports to TASS.
From December 1 to May 31, 2021, the supply of saltpeter abroad was quoted in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The volume of the semi-annual quota for nitrogen fertilizers, except for ammonium sulfate and mixtures of ammonium nitrate with calcium carbonate, amounted to 5.9 million tons, for complex fertilizers with nitrogen content – 5.35 million tons.
Recall that Russia accounts for up to 45% of world exports of ammonium nitrate.
