News Update on Harvest in the Volgograd Region of Russia

Farmers of the Volgograd region harvested 4.5 million tons of grain from 85% of the area, exceeding the plan by 400 thousand tons, the press service of the regional administration reported on Friday.

“I congratulate our farmers and all residents of the Volgograd region on a very serious achievement – overfulfilling the plan to ensure food security of the Russian Federation. Instead of 4.1 million tons of grain, we sent over 4.5 million tons to the bins of the Motherland,” Governor Andrei’s words are quoted in the message Bocharova.

According to the administration, at the moment the harvest has been collected from 85% of the area, it remains to collect grain from 300 thousand hectares. In total, more than 3 million hectares of fields have been sown in the Volgograd Region for the 2020 harvest. It is noted that the average yield in the region is about 27 hectares per centner, which is higher than last year’s indicators by 4 hectares per centner.

According to the ministry, this year’s harvest is of high quality, about 90% of the harvested grain is food, most of this is high-quality wheat.

In recent years, the Volgograd region has been harvesting over 4 million tons of grain, 60 elevators and grain-receiving enterprises with a storage capacity of about 4 million tons of grain operate in the region. Warehouses of agricultural enterprises can take another 2.5 million tons of grain.
