News Update on the Volgograd Region Grain-Harvest

Volgograd Region Farmers Harvested 4.7 million tons of Grain as of 7.8.2020.

The introduction of modern effective agricultural technologies, the use of elite seeds of agricultural crops, the renewal of the machinery park – these and other aspects of the development of the agro-industrial complex were considered today at the site of the agro-industrial fair, which took place in the Novoanninsky district in compliance with safety standards. Deputy Governor – Chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the Volgograd Region Vasily Ivanov congratulated the farmers on the next taken abroad – the region’s grain growers have already harvested 4.7 million tons of grain.

Vasily Ivanov noted that a correctly chosen sowing strategy contributed to obtaining a good harvest: the emphasis was placed on winter crops and drought-resistant crops. Recall that the issue of minimizing the risks associated with the climatic features of the region is constantly in the focus of attention of the Council for the Development of Rural Areas and Agro-Industrial Complex under the Governor of the Volgograd Region Andrei Bocharov. At a recent meeting of the council, it was reported that this year the area under winter crops and corn for grain has been increased – these crops determine the gross grain production in the region, providing 90% of the harvest. Sowings of spring barley and wheat, which are most affected by the June drought, have been reduced; the area occupied by hardy millet has been expanded.

In addition, the average yield has increased, which is about 27 centners per hectare. The basis for this was the timely implementation of all agrotechnical measures, prompt delivery of state support funds to commodity producers and their effective use. State aid is also aimed at purchasing new highly productive plant seeds, which, as a result, improves grain quality.

Representatives of the farms of the Volgograd region, which make a significant contribution to the common loaf, strengthening the region’s status as one of the leaders of the Russian agro-industrial complex, were awarded today.

During the agro-industrial fair, the possibilities of modern harvesting, tillage and sowing equipment were also presented. On the experimental fields of sunflower and corn, the results of the application of new technologies were shown.
