Today we continue the series of publications about Volga Baikal AGRO People.

Please, meet Sture Gustavsson – Head Agronomist for Volga Baikal AGRO LLC. Sture is from Sweden. He holds a degree in farm management from the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences. Mr. Gustavsson has a great experience of working in the agribusiness in different countries including Sweden, Poland, Ukraine and Russia.

Sture Gustavsson joined Volga Baikal AGRO in December 2018. “I like Russia because Russia offers large scale farming with the black soil which is, probably, one of the best in the world,” – comments Sture.

Sture Gustavsson is an agronomist with over 20 years of experience. He has developed innovative farm practices and technologies which boost crop yields, control pests and weeds. In his work he uses the latest technologies and tools for growing crops profitably and sustainably.

As of now, Sture is particularly interested in establishing a highly profitable farming operation through economies of scale and synergies; planning, control and cost control which is the most important factor. He strongly believes that Russia could be a winner on the world market: ”The main strength of Russia is ability to cultivate and harvest vast areas of farmland where the economics of scale create conditions for a real low cost production. The great  challenge, – continues Mr. Gustavsson, – is to manage a low cost production with a high quality outcome”.

Another strenth of Russia is its people: hardworking, engaged and dedicated. But “we have to train and teach people. We need to educate everyone who is involved in the field operations: a machine driver must have an agronomical understanding of what the crops need, as well as an agronomist has to understand what a machine is able to do.”

“This year, despite the pandemic and difficult global situation, was rather successful for Volga Baikal AGRO. We attracted different funding sources and are in process of closing the first Phase in Development with our Partners and Investors. We continue to develop our business consistently.” – highlighted Martin Leu, founder and president of Leu AGRO Group Switzerland.
