Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on Harvesting Campaign in the Russian Federation !!!

Harvest is completed and this year it ranked the second after the record – 2017.

“The Russian farmers have completed the harvest”, – said the Ministry of Agriculture. Despite the pandemic, according to the ministry, the harvesting campaign took place as usual, grain collection in bunker weight amounted to 138.1 million tons, which is 11.4 million tons more than the last year. In net weight, the figure is expected to reach 131 million tons. “This is one of the largest indicators for the modern history of the country”, –  emphasizes the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2017 there were collected more than 135.5 million tons.

The ministry also notes that this year we obtained one of the best wheat harvest in terms of the volume  – 88.1 million tons in bunker weight against 77.9 million tons a year earlier. In net weight, the harvest of wheat will be about 84 million tons. The gross harvest of barley amounted to 22.2 million tons, corn for grain – 14.3 million tons, rice – 1.2 million tons, buckwheat – about 1 million tons. The harvest of oilseeds will reach 20.5 million tons, including 13.3 million tons of sunflower, 2.7 million tons of rapeseed, and 4.4 million tons of soybeans.

The production of potatoes in agricultural enterprises and peasant farms is expected at the level of 7 million tons. The gross harvest of vegetables there will reach 6.8 million tons, a record 1.3 million tons will be harvested in winter greenhouses. The production of fruits and berries will remain at the level of last year – 1.1 million tons. The resulting harvest will fully meet the needs of the domestic market for food, said the Ministry of Agriculture.

Earlier, the Director of the Fruit and Vegetable Union Mikhail Glushkov warned that this year the production of vegetables will reach a plateau, but the situation may soon worsen. “This year, production increased because those greenhouses were built, which they began to implement in 2018, when a support measure was in place to reimburse capital costs, preferential investment loans were also issued and there was a“ boom ”in construction. In 2019-2020, these greenhouses were built and now they are reaching their design capacity, ”explained Glushkov. Now, according to him, investment projects in the industry are not so attractive, since state support measures have been canceled, wholesale prices are falling and there are almost no people willing to enter the fruit and vegetable industry.

The sown area this year was increased by 83.9 thousand hectares to 79.6 million hectares. This year, the spring sowing of wheat, rye, corn, buckwheat has grown, which made it possible to lay a good foundation for the further development of the domestic flour and cereal industry, – said the agricultural department.

For the harvest – 2021, winter crops were sown on an area of 19.3 million hectares, or 100.6% of the forecasted area (in 2019 – 18.2 million hectares). However, according to the estimates of Roshydromet, by November 25, 22% of winter crops were in poor condition, including 2.42 million hectares of winter crops which did not grow. “Such a share of bad crops is an absolute anti-record,” – said a general director of the analytical company ProZerno Vladimir Petrichenko. At the same time, the situation with winter crops can either improve or worsen: it depends on weather conditions in winter and spring.
