Volga Baikal AGRO News Update on Russian Agriculture Sunflower Production by 2024 !!!

By 2024, Russia will produce 17.4 million tons of Sunflower Anually !!!

First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov paid a working visit to the Samara region, where, together with the governor of the region Dmitry Azarov, he got acquainted with the production of oilseeds and held a meeting on the issues of sunflower cultivation.

Opening the meeting, Dzhambulat Khatuov noted that in recent years, there has been a tendency to increase the production of this oilseed crop in the country. Such a significant increase in production is due to its high profitability. Over the past 10 years, the sown area under sunflower has increased by 20% and in 2019 for the first time reached 8.6 million hectares, which, among other things, contributed to a record harvest of 15.4 million tons. In the current year, the sown area under crops amounted to 8.5 million hectares, or 59.2% in the structure of the oil wedge. The largest areas are sown in the regions of the Volga (3.8 million ha), Southern (2 million ha) and Central (1.5 million ha) federal districts.

The gross harvest of sunflower in 2020, taking into account the export potential, is projected at 13 million tons, subject to favorable weather conditions during the harvesting period. The resulting harvest will provide raw materials for processing enterprises and maintain a stable market situation. According to Dzhambulat Khatuov, the momentum gained indicates that the task of increasing the production of sunflower by 2024 to 17.4 million tons will be completed.

The meeting participants discussed the feasibility of introducing short-term crop rotations of sunflower. During the event, representatives of the scientific community reported on the results of practical experience in introducing four-field crop rotations into production.

Dzhambulat Khatuov instructed the governing body of the agro-industrial complex of the Samara region to ensure the achievement of target indicators for the production of oilseeds, and the scientific community to analyze the impact of crop rotations with a short rotation on the production, economic and environmental indicators of agricultural producers in the region.

During the working visit, the First Deputy Minister got acquainted with the progress of sunflower harvesting, cultivated with the use of a four-field crop rotation of domestic hybrids at the largest agricultural enterprise in the region – the BIO-TON Company. Dzhambulat Khatuov evaluated in real mode the use of unmanned aerial vehicles during phytosanitary treatments.
