The spring sowing campaign started in the Krasnodar Territory, but almost a month later than usual, the press service of the regional administration said. As in the past year, the farmers of the region will have to sow about 1.8 million hectares, including almost 740 thousand hectares will be occupied by grain and leguminous crops. The sowing of sugar beet, peas and soybeans will increase by more than 70 thousand hectares. “Today the farms are provided with everything necessary, including fertilizers, seeds, modern equipment,” said the head of the region, Veniamin Kondratyev.
Also, sowing began in Crimea, farmers occupied 2.4 thousand hectares of the planned 84 thousand hectares with early spring cereals and legumes, thesaid.region. Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers – Minister of Agriculture of the Crimea Andrey Ryumshin specified that today the sowing of spring barley, oats, leguminous crops, coriander and mustard has begun. 540 thousand hectares were sown with winter crops, more than 87% of seedlings are in good and satisfactory condition, he said. Last year, spring sowing in the republic began earlier than in other regions – on February 12. In 2021, spring sowing in Crimea and Krasnodar Territory began later due to weather conditions: in February it became very cold and snowed.
This year, the first in the country in mid-February, due to a short-term increase in temperature, the agrarians of the Stavropol Territory began to sow spring crops , however, mass sowing has not yet begun there. More than 900 thousand hectares are to be sown in the region. At the same time, thethe Stavropol Territory notes that by March 5, about 90% of more than 2 million hectares of winter crops had sprung up against 99% a year earlier, including 43.8%, or almost 802 thousand hectares, in poor condition.
Meanwhile, the head of the federal agricultural department, Dmitry Patrushev, said at a government meeting that a massive start of spring field work in southern Russia is expected just the other day, which corresponds to the average long-term values. He recalled that 19.4 million hectares were sown with winter cereals for the harvest of 2021, now about 80% of the area is in good and satisfactory condition. “This is slightly lower than last year’s level. The lack of precipitation in the fall of last year affected in a certain way, – commented Patrushev (quote from the transcript of the meeting). – But we note a gradual improvement in the situation. A more accurate forecast can be made after the snow melts and the beginning of active vegetation. ”
