Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on the Grain Union Forecast regarding grain harvest in Russia in 2020 @ 132-133 million tons !!!

Grain harvest in Russia this year will amount to 132-133 million tons, says President of the Russian Grain Union Arkady Zlochevsky. “The harvest in weight after processing (in net weight) will be 132-133 million tons, including 82 million tons of wheat. We will not break the post-Soviet record, it will be the second harvest in the history of Russia,” he said, recalling that the record was set in 2017, when 135.5 million tons of grain were harvested. Now in second place is the figure of Soviet Russia – 127.8 million tons in 1978. “But then the crop was harvested from 78 million hectares, and this year under harvesting 48 million hectares,” he said.

Zlochevsky noted “good quality indicators of wheat, especially in the center and Siberia.” “We received a rather serious increase in wheat of strong and valuable wheat. This is a gratifying factor,” he said.

According to his forecast, this year a record barley harvest “for all historical times” will be obtained – over 22 million tons (20.5 million tons in 2019). At the same time, the corn harvest will decline to “over 13 million tons” (14.3 million tons last year). “But this is enough to meet domestic needs, just less corn will be exported,” he said.

The Grain Union also predicts a decline in sunflower harvest – to 12.2 million tons from 15.4 million tons last year. To a certain extent, this has led to an increase in sunflower prices, the head of the union noted.

The rise in prices was also facilitated by “some measures taken to restrict the export of sunflower, which worked in the opposite direction from those expected,” Zlochevsky said. “This topic was very strongly lobbied by oil factories, they wanted these restrictions. The export ban led to an increase in world prices for oil and, as a result, to an active growth in demand for oilseeds, prices began to rise,” he said. – The initiators of the ban wanted to reduce prices , as a result we have raised them. ”

As a head of the Grain Union predicts, grain exports from Russia in this agricultural year (July 2020-June 2021) are expected “in the region of 50 million tons, including 38 million tons of wheat.” “There are only two months left for active export. Then the rates will naturally fall both due to weather conditions and possible opportunistic considerations,” he said.
