According to Askond estimates, in 2021, the export direction of the confectionery industry in the Russian Federation will increase by 19.1% in physical terms. The volume of deliveries of domestic sweets abroad will amount to 824.5 thousand tons in the amount of USD 1.68 billion. According to the association, these figures will be a record for the industry and will exceed the volume of exports in the pre-pandemic 2019 by 30.8%.
The Association noted that chocolate confectionery occupies a significant part in the structure of Russian exports of confectionery as a whole. As of September 2021, they accounted for more than 51.5% of sales in the last 12 months ($ 838.5 million). “The dynamics of supplies abroad allows us to assert that by the end of the year Russia will strengthen its position in the top ten world exporters of this type of sweets,” – the Askond believes.
The experts added that Russian confectionery products are supplied to 92 countries. China and the countries of the Customs Union remain the main buyers of sweets – they account for 57% of export supplies. However, exports are also growing due to sales in relatively new directions for Russian confectioners: Serbia, Brazil, Nigeria and the countries of the Middle East.
