Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on the Russian Exports !!!

In January export of agricultural products increased by 28%: export volume reached $ 1.96 billion.

Export of agricultural products in January amounted to $ 1.96 billion, which is 28% more than a year earlier, follows from the data of the Agroexport center subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture. Grain has traditionally become the main commodity exported abroad – it was exported for $ 715 million (plus 40%), including wheat – for $ 636 million (plus 57%). Exports of meat and dairy products increased by 19% to $ 62 million. The supplies of other agricultural products increased significantly – from $ 198 million in January 2020 to $ 529 million. In particular, the export of soybeans in this category increased from $ 19 million to $ 414 million.

At the same time, the supply of fat and oil products fell and reached $ 322 million (minus 1% compared to January 2020), including shipments of sunflower oil decreased by 7.5% to $ 148 million, soybean oil – by 61% to $ 20 million. export of fish and seafood – up to $ 179 million (minus 36%), food and processing industry products (confectionery, sugar products, tobacco, etc.) – up to $ 150 million (minus 9%).

During the reporting period, China became the main buyer of Russian agricultural products; agricultural raw materials and foodstuffs worth $ 446 million were supplied to its market, which is 62% more than in the same period last year. Next comes Turkey, which bought Russian products for $ 288 million – 21% more. This country became the main importer of Russian grain in January ($ 175 million). In third place are the EU countries, where products worth $ 203 million were supplied – 5% more than a year ago. The main volume of shipments – $ 73 million – fell on fat and oil products. This is followed by South Korea, which imported goods for $ 173 million, which is 158% more than in January 2020. Basically, the country bought fish – for $ 98 million.Egypt closes the five main importing countries, which in January reduced exports from Russia by 14% to $ 124 million.

In mid-January, Maxim Nikitochkin, senior manager of the EY agro-industrial complex services group, told to Agroinvestor that the export of agricultural products in 2021 may decrease by $ 1-1.3 billion. The expert said that the reason for this was the active export of grain at the end of 2020, instead of the beginning of 2021: in November-December, grain was exported for $ 2.6 billion – almost twice as much as a year ago. Nikitochkin associated such actions with regulatory measures in the form of duties.

According to Dmitry Rylko, Director General of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, in 2021 supplies to foreign markets will not be as high as in 2020, when products worth $ 29.4 billion were shipped. “Those resources and reserves that lay on the surface were are largely depleted, the grain yield is likely to be lower. For oilseeds, there are also problems with export: duties on the export of oilseeds and their processed products will have a rather serious impact, – he noted. “We do not see such breakthrough stories with the export of meat and milk, on the contrary, I have a feeling that everything is far from going well there”.
