“The sowing campaign in Russia has entered an active phase, currently field work is already underway in the South, North Caucasus, as well as in individual subjects of the Central, North-West, Far Eastern and Volga Federal Districts. In total, farmers from 41 regions have entered the fields.” – the ministry said.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the work is carried out in a regular mode, and their rates correspond to the average long-term values. To date, spring sowing has been carried out on an area of ​​2.7 million hectares, which is 5.2% of the forecast. Including wheat sown on 314.4 thousand hectares, barley – on 917.9 thousand hectares, corn for grain – on 47.2 thousand hectares, sugar beet – on 201.3 thousand hectares, sunflower, rapeseed and soybeans – on 160.3 thousand hectares, 20 thousand hectares and 5.4 thousand hectares, respectively, vegetables – on 28.3 thousand hectares, and potatoes are planted on 18.5 thousand hectares.

This year, the sown area in the country as a whole will increase by 600 thousand hectares and will amount to 80.5 million hectares, of which 51.5 million hectares are spring sowing. In particular, the area under sugar beet will grow by 10-15% compared to last year, which, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, will make it possible to produce more sugar and ensure a stable situation in the market for this socially significant product. In addition, it is expected to increase the area under the main cereals, sunflowers, vegetables, potatoes and vineyards. Under favorable weather conditions, the growth of their production will further increase the level of self-sufficiency in these products, as well as the development of the processing industry and increase the country’s export potential, the report says.

The Ministry of Agriculture also reported that Russian farmers have all the necessary material and technical resources to carry out seasonal field work this year. In particular, at present, the provision with seeds is 102.7%. Agricultural producers have 2.7 million tons of mineral fertilizers in stock, which is 500 thousand tons more than a year earlier. Also, in the first quarter of this year, farmers purchased 4.3 thousand tractors and 1.5 thousand combines, which, respectively, is 1.5 and 1.7 times more than in the same period last year.
