The Ministry of Agriculture Russia Update on Sunflower Harvest. Harvest is expected at the level of average long-term values, this will provide raw materials for processing enterprises and maintain a stable market situation.

Ministry of Agriculture expects that despite unfavorable weather conditions in a number of southern regions of the country, the sunflower harvest this year will be at the level of average long-term values, although slightly lower than the record figure of 2019, when about 15.4 million tons were harvested, TASS reports, citing a message from the department … The gross harvest of sunflower will provide raw materials for processing enterprises and maintain a stable situation in the market, the ministry said.

Previously, the analytical center ” SovEcon»Lowered the forecast for sunflower harvest to 11.8 million tons, while in August the harvest potential was estimated at 14 million tons. The main reason is unfavorable weather conditions, primarily in the South of Russia. Dry spring gave way to dry summer, which caused significant damage to sunflower, analysts say. “The state of crops in the region, according to our assessment, is the worst in at least the last ten years,” says the message of SovEkona“. “The crops in the south of the Central Black Earth Region also suffered from dry weather.” According to the forecast of the center’s analysts, in the South and North Caucasian districts the gross harvest of sunflower will amount to 3.3 million tons – one third lower than last year. It is also expected to cut production in the Center and the Volga region.

General Director of the analytical company ” ProZerno“Vladimir Petrichenko is more optimistic about the possible harvest. “Although the gross sunflower harvest is expected to be significantly lower than last year, it will still be high – the second after the record figure of 2019,” he told Agroinvestor“. In August, the expert predicted the harvest at the level of 15.1 million tons, now it will be adjusted downward, says Petrichenko.

As of the end of last week, 0.6 million hectares of sunflower were threshed in Russia with a yield of 16 c / ha, which is 28% less than last year, says SovEkon“. According to the Agroanalytics Center subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture, by September 8 sunflower was harvested from 785 thousand hectares or about 9% of crops, 1.28 million tons were harvested, which is 114.7 thousand tons more than on the same date last year. At the same time, the average yield is 16.3 c / ha against 22.5 c / ha in 2019.
