Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on the Weather Forecast for Spring – Summer 2021 !!!

Roman Vilfand, Scientific Director of the Hydrometeorological Center of the RF denies talkings about summer drought in Russia.

It is not necessary to talk about the upcoming drought in the regions of the Russian Federation, – said on April 5, 2021 Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center.

“As for drought, this is completely out of the question. Under such a forecast, it concerns soil moisture for the growing season of winter crops. The situation, in principle, is everywhere favorable, but in the South and North Caucasian Federal Districts there is a shortage of moisture in the soil in some places,” – RIA Novosti quotes him.

The forecaster pointed out that in the period from January up to March these regions got about a norm of precipitations.

“There was a fact that before entering the winter there was an obvious moisture shortage in the soil. According to Roshydromet’s data, at the end of November, 22.4% of the sown areas were recorded as areas with poor winter crops. Winter has improved the condition, and as of now only 8 – 10% is in a not-satisfactory condition. This is due to the fact that there is a shortage of productive moisture in these regions, but this has nothing to do with the concept of drought,” – explained Vilfand.

Roman Vilfand clarified that drought forecasts cannot be made before the end of May, since they depend on precipitation, which cannot be predicted before such a long time.

At the same time, Roman Vilfandilfand warned that the UV index will start to reach a dangerous level in May.
