Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on Russian Agriculture Output !!!
In 2020, the production of agricultural products will increase by more than 2%.
Positive results were recorded in animal husbandry, crop production, as well as in food and processing industries.
By the end of 2020, the growth of the agricultural sector of the RF economy is expected to be more than 2%, – said the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, citing a statement by the head of the ministry Dmitry Patrushev. According to him, agricultural enterprises show an increase in production in their main areas of activity: positive results have been noted in animal husbandry, crop production, as well as food and processing industries.
For 11 months of 2020, the agriculture grew by 1.5%, the food industry added 3.9%, and the production of beverages increased by 1.3%. The gross harvest of wheat amounted to 85.9 million tons with a total grain yield of 133 million tons. “This will fully satisfy the needs of the domestic market for grain, including providing processing enterprises and livestock farms, and lay a good foundation for the further development of various branches of the agro-industrial complex”, – said Patrushev.
The harvest of oilseeds is estimated at more than 21 million tons. At the same time, despite unfavorable weather conditions in a number of regions, the sunflower harvest turned out to be higher than the average long-term values - 13.3 million tons. A record was also achieved in rapeseed production – 2.6 million tons, harvest soybeans amounted to about 4.3 million tons – at the level of the last year.
The harvest of vegetables in the commodity sector in 2020 amounted to about 6.8 million tons, while an absolute record was recorded in the collection of greenhouse vegetables – at least 1.3 million tons. Director of the Fruit and Vegetable Union Mikhail Glushkov said at the beginning of December that this year production increased because those greenhouses that began to be built in 2018 were launched, when part of the capital costs were reimbursed, in addition, preferential investment loans were issued and there was a boom in investment in the industry. In his opinion, if the situation in the industry remains at the current level, production in the future will not only not increase, but will also fall. “What’s in store for the industry in 2021? This is a big question. And the fate of the industry today, in our opinion, directly depends on the state’s understanding of its problems,” – Glushkov said then.
The harvest of fruits and berries in all farms in 2020 increased by 2.2% up to 3.5 million tons. The growth in the production of vegetables, fruits and berries contributes to a decrease in imports: compared to the level of 2014, the import of tomatoes decreased by almost two times, and and apples – by 36%, compared the Ministry of Agriculture.
Indicators in the livestock sector are also positive. Thus, the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in all farms in 2020, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, increased by 3.2% to 15.6 million tons (in live weight), including the production of pigs – by 9.1% to 5, 5 million tons, cattle – by 0.2% to 2.8 million tons, poultry – by 0.4% to 6.7 million tons. According to the ministry, milk production in all farms will increase by 2.5% and will amount to 32.1 million tons, eggs – by 0.4% to 45.1 billion pieces.
“The results of the work of the agro-industrial branch in 2020 will allow satisfying the needs of the domestic market for basic food products and ensuring the country’s food security in key areas,” – notes the Ministry of Agriculture.
During his annual press conference, President Vladimir Putin predicted 2% growth in agriculture in Russia for the year. “The production of [products] of agriculture has traditionally been in a good zone in recent years,” – he noted.
