In 2021 the European Union became a leader in food imports from the Russian Federation.
In 2021, the EU countries took first place in food imports from Russia, overtaking China. This is stated in the materials of the Agroexport center subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture. According to analysts, the supply of agricultural products to the EU last year increased by 41% to $4.7 billion. In the total structure of exports, the EU occupies 12.5%.
The second place in terms of supplies of Russian agricultural products was taken by Turkey with a share of 11.5%: last year, exports to this country increased by 38% to $4.3 billion. Exports of agricultural products from Russia to China, which ranked third in terms of supplies in value terms, in 2021 decreased by 12% to $3.5 billion. According to Agroexport, the total export of agricultural products from Russia in 2021 increased by 23% and reached $37.7 billion.
The increase in deliveries to European countries is associated with an increased demand for grain and fish products. The latter accounted for almost 40% of all exports to European countries, grains accounted for a share of 12%. The most noticeable growth in monetary terms in 2021 was shown by the supply of crabs and other crustaceans to European countries. According to Agroexport, in 2021, the volume of exports of crustaceans from Russia to the EU countries increased 2.1 times to $930.8 million, fish fillets – by 43.8% to $348.35 million, frozen fish – by 22.35 % to $294.5 million. In addition, shipments of grain and leguminous crops increased. Thus, wheat exports were 88.2% more than a year earlier, amounting to $394.9 million, corn supplies increased 4.3 times to $140.7 million, peas – by 68% to $123.5 million.
