Buckwheat harvest in Russia exceeded 1 million tons, which is 66 thousand tons more than the same date last year. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Agriculture.
“The harvesting of the main cereal crop is nearing completion in Russia. In particular, 1.037 million tons of buckwheat were harvested as of November 17, which is 66 thousand tons more than the same date last year. This year the gross harvest of crops will exceed the level of 2020 and will fully ensure the utilization of processing enterprises,” – said the ministry.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year the sown area under this crop was increased by 12.1% – up to 975.9 thousand hectares, which made it possible to obtain a stable harvest even in adverse weather conditions. Buckwheat is grown in 49 regions of Russia. The leading regions, which account for about 75% of the gross tax, include the Altai Territory, Bashkiria, Kursk, Voronezh and Oryol Regions.
Currently, buckwheat production in Russia fully covers the needs of the domestic market. “The Ministry of Agriculture conducts systematic work aimed at expanding cultivated areas, introducing modern technologies, increasing the volume of mineral fertilizers and using highly productive seeds. These and other measures contribute to the growth of cereal crops production and form a significant raw material base for the processing industry,” – added the ministry.
