Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on the Peas Exports !!!
Russia can increase peas exports by 25% in the coming years !!!
Russian exports of peas, the main legume crop in Russia, may reach 1.5 million tons against a record 1.2 million tons delivered to the world market in 2021, follows from an analytical review of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Agroexport.
“If favorable conditions are maintained for further growth in global demand for peas (including as an alternative source of protein and a replacement for meat products), as well as ensuring an appropriate level of production in the country, Russian exports can reach up to 1.5 million tons (550 million dollars),” – the review says.
According to the ITC Trade Map, Russia is one of the largest suppliers of peas and consistently ranks second in the ranking of world exporters of this product.
In recent years, Russian exports of dried peas have generally been characterized by positive dynamics, while the maximum supply to foreign markets was recorded in 2021 (1.2 million tons or $377.9 million).
The consumers of Russian peas are Bangladesh and Pakistan. Turkey, Egypt, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates are among the key export destinations for peas. Steady demand – in the CIS countries (first of all, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus).
India can also be considered as a promising market, however, supplies to this country are highly dependent on the state protectionist policy pursued by India and the expected harvest in the country. It should also be noted the high prospects for the supply of peas to China, which is one of the world’s key importers, analysts say.
In many countries, peas are an important crop, widely popular due to their high protein content and good yields. Pea products are used in the production of meat products and meat substitutes, in sports and dietary nutrition, drinks, dairy products, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other industries.
