Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on the Situation with the Export of Mineral Fertilizers !!!
The domestic market will remain the priority for the Russian agricultural producers.
The government will extend the quota for the export of mineral fertilizers from June until at least December 2022, the press service of Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said following a meeting of the Government Commission on Agro-Industrial Complex and Sustainable Rural Development. “As before, the domestic market should remain a priority for producers in order to fully meet the needs of farmers and achieve results in the production of agricultural products,” she said. “From June 01, 2022 up to May 31, 2023, more than 15 million tons of fertilizers will have to be purchased, which is 23% more than a year earlier.”
Previously, quantitative restrictions were introduced until May 31, 2022 on the export of nitrogen and nitrogen-containing fertilizers, and there was also a ban on the supply of ammonium nitrate until May 1. At the same time, fertilizer producers and regions signed agreements on maintaining prices for domestic consumers. In the beginning of May Agroinvestor wrote that the relevant ministries, on behalf of the government, are discussing the indexation of fixed domestic prices.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the plan for the purchase of mineral fertilizers for agricultural producers for this year has been fulfilled by 84%.
Meanwhile, according to RIA Novosti with reference to The American Conservative, restrictions on Russian fertilizers and the US administration’s refusal to increase oil production could lead to serious problems for American farmers. In March, Washington lifted restrictions on Russian fertilizers, but by that time the damage to American farmers had already been done, the newspaper notes. “The latest U.S. fertilizer price index — the weighted average price of natural phosphate rock, phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen — was $254.97, more than double its 2021 level,” – the American Conservative said.
