The Union of Grain Exporters of Russia estimates the export potential of the Russian Federation for wheat in 2022-2023 agricultural year (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023) at 40.3 million tons. The main buyers may be the countries of the Middle East and North Africa, as well as Asia. This was announced during the All-Russian field day by the chairman of the board of the union, Eduard Zernin.
“We estimate the export potential for wheat at 40.3 million tons, 50 million tons for grain in general,”
– he said.
Zernin recalled that Russian exporters finished the last agricultural season well, sending 30.7 million tons of wheat abroad and retaining their position as a world leader. In addition, according to him, exporters also entered the new season “not bad”.
“We have promising contacts, we have drawn conclusions and turned our shortcomings into our advantages. For example, we do not have enough large-tonnage fleet, so we have focused our efforts on the Middle East and North Africa,”
– said E.Zernin.
In particular, he noted that today the share of Russian companies in deliveries to the Egyptian tenders of the state agency GASC has grown from 27% to 35% year on year. “There are also intensive negotiations on other key customers. For us this season, these are Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Iran shows excellent dynamics, Algeria, which increased purchases last agricultural season, and we look forward to continuing this work,” – said E.Zernin.
He also noted that Russian exporters are negotiating with representatives of Asian countries. “With Asia now, probably, the most problems, because we kept the focus on our key market – the Middle East and North Africa. Now we are starting to closely deal with Asia and, I hope, we will also solve the issues that arise there,” – explained E.Zernin. He added that the consensus forecast, which is collected by the Union of Grain Exporters from market participants, confirms the forecast of the Ministry of Agriculture for the grain harvest in Russia in 2022 in the amount of 130 million tons.
