Volga Baikal AGRO News Update on Russian Wheat Stocks: Center and Volga Regions at their Maximum since 2017 !!!

Wheat stocks in the Center region and Volga region are at the peak since 2017. This is the result of the record grain harvest!

According to Rosstatwheat stocks as of September 01, 2020 amounted to 34.1 million tons. This is the second result after the record-2017 (37.4 million tons).

According to the head of the analytical center RusAgroTrans Igor Pavensky, this is the second result after the 2017 record (37.4 million tons). And if the stocks of procurement and processing enterprises were in general at the level of the last year (plus 0.8%), then for agricultural producers they increased by 16.5%. “Such a high level of stocks was formed due to historically record harvests and stocks in the Volga region and the center of the country, despite the decline in harvest and stocks in the south and Siberia,” Pavensky told Interfax.

By September 1, reserves in the Central Federal District reached 12.6 million tons against 10.5 million tons a year earlier, in the Volga region – increased from 3.9 million tons to 6.3 million tons. At the same time, reserves in the South and North Caucasian districts wheat were at the level of 2014 – 11.8 million tons. In the regions of Siberia, stocks decreased by 14% compared to the beginning of September last year, amounting to 1.9 million tons – this is at least since 2015. In the Urals, reserves increased by about a third to 0.74 million tons.

According to the Agroanalytics Center, subordinate to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of October 01, the gross grain harvest in the Central Federal District amounted to 34.2 million tons against 27.8 million tons a year earlier, 31.9 million tons were harvested in the Volga region against 21.5 million tons. In Russia as a whole, by this time the harvest reached 123.6 million tons, while last year 110.6 million tons in bunker weight were collected.

In August, predicting a high grain yield in the Volga and Central Federal Districts, industry analysts drew attention to the fact that a large gross harvest could become a problem for regions that are not used to such indicators. In particular, difficulties may arise with the availability of drying facilities and granaries, which will force farmers to sell grain “directly from the combine”, which will lead to a drop in purchase prices, they warned. However, judging by the dynamics of prices, this scenario did not materialize.
