Volga Baikal AGRO NEWS Update on the Situation on the Wheat Harvest !!!

The US Department of Agriculture has raised the forecast for the wheat harvest in the Russian Federation in 2020-2021 agricultural year.

The US Department of Agriculture raised the forecast for the wheat crop in Russia in the 2020-2021 agricultural year (from July 01, 2020 up to June 30, 2021) up to 83.5 million tons (November review of the US Department of Agriculture).

In October the US Agriculture Department’s estimations were 83 million tons. The forecast for the export of wheat in the current season was also increased – up to 39.5 million tons from 39 million. Thus, based on the department’s forecast, both the harvest and the export of the Russian wheat in the current season can become the second largest after the record of the 2017-2018 agricultural year (from July 01, 2017 up to June 30, 2018).

According to the ministry, carryover stocks of wheat at the end of June next year will increase up to 10.728 million tons (estimate retained) from 7.228 million tons at the end of June 2020.

The current export forecast means that in the 2020-2021 agricultural year Russia can regain its world leadership in wheat exports, which the country lost to the European Union at the end of the 2019-2020 agricultural year (the ministry estimates the export of this crop from the European Union last season at 38.429 million tons, from Russia – 34.485 million).

So, according to the ministry, the United States can export 27 million tons of wheat in the 2020-2021 agricultural year (the estimate is retained). Supplies from the EU countries in the current season can amount at 26 million tons (the forecast has been raised from 25.5 million tons). Global wheat production in the current season can reach 772.375 million tons (October’s estimates were 773.082 million).

The Ministry of Agriculture expects that the grain harvest in Russia in 2020 will be more than 125 million tons, and the harvest of wheat will be at least 82 million. Thus, grain and wheat harvests can become the second largest in the Russian history after the record in 2017. According to Rosstat, in 2019 the gross grain harvest in the Russian Federation amounted to 121.2 million tons, the wheat harvest – 74.453 million tons.

Grain exports from Russia in the 2019-2020 agricultural year (from July 01, 2019 up to June 30, 2020) amounted to 41.7 million tons, wheat – 33.2 million tons. The Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation expects that in 2020-2021 that the agricultural exports of grain will be 45 million tons, wheat – 35 million. Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko said in October that the grain exports in the 2020-2021 season could amount to about 50 million tons.
