Russian barley conquers new markets !!!

From January 01 up to December 13, 2020, Russia supplied 5.5 million tons of barley to foreign markets, which is 39% more than the same period of the last year. In value terms, the volume of exports increased by 29% up to $ 982 million. In the 2020/21 grain season, exports are at a record pace: from July to November, even without taking into account data for November, 3.2 million tons worth $ 573 million were exported across the EAEU, which is higher than the record year 2017 for this period (3.03 million tons). According to the FCS, grain crops were exported to more than 25 countries this year.

A significant increase was provided by Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest importer of barley. Since the beginning of the year, the kingdom has imported 2.7 million tons from Russia worth $ 499 million, increasing purchases 2.3 times in physical volume and 2.2 times in value. Jordan ranks second among buyers of the Russian barley, exports to this country decreased by 19% to 365 thousand tons in physical volume and by 33% to $ 64 million in cash. For the first time since September 2017, deliveries were made to Tunisia (259 thousand tons for 49 million dollars), as a result of which the North African country is currently in the third place among buyers of the Russian barley. Turkey increased imports of the Russian barley by 54% up to 265 thousand tons for $ 47 million (+ 43%), Libya decreased by 33% to 166 thousand tons by $ 31 million (-30%). The United Arab Emirates significantly increased the imports (6.8 times to 132 thousand tons), for the first time since 2018, supplies to Kuwait and Algeria were resumed (166 thousand tons and 31 thousand tons, respectively). In May, Russia began exporting to Ethiopia, and in October to China. As of December 13, China has shipped 16 thousand tons of barley in the amount of 3.6 million dollars from the Omsk and Novosibirsk regions. T

The growth of barley exports from Russia was influenced by crop failure in a number of competing countries, caused by generally unfavorable climatic conditions, as well as by the active purchasing policy of China, which reoriented some suppliers to itself.
